Woodland
The Estate has woods ranging in size from half an hectare to 56 hectares (to convert hectares into acres multiply by 2.471!) But regardless of their size or designation (over 230 hectares of SSSI : 236 hectares of ASNW), each wood is managed commercially but sensitively to balance sustainable timber production with conservation of biodiversity.
In addition to tradtional coppice management, we also thin and fell to produce both furniture grade timber, planking, and cordwood (approx 1000 tonnes) which is sold for firewood. This year we have planted over 6000 single stem whips, in addition to fencing and protecting coppice regrowth from deer, which will ensure future generations will also be able to manage the woods in a sustainable way.
